    Confirms the powder is creatine monohydrate, and how much of it is. It’s the test that answers “is this actually what it says it is.” Ours came back at 99.7% against a specification of 98.0–102.0%.

    Creatine monohydrate holds water inside its crystal structure by design — that’s what the “monohydrate” means. This test checks that water sits where it should (10.5–12.5%). Ours is 11.3%, which is how you know it’s true monohydrate rather than something blended.

Why the assay is measured “dried basis”. Creatine monohydrate is about 12% water by weight, held in the crystal itself. Testing the dried powder is how the purity of the creatine is measured without that water skewing the number — and the loss-on-drying test above confirms the water content is exactly where it should be.

Tested by Cawthron Institute, an independent New Zealand laboratory. Loss on drying follows the United States Pharmacopeia method.
